Three Amazing Cars For Sale This Week, March 3 2025

While cars coming up for auction usually get most of the press, every week some of the world’s best dealers, specialists and brokers list some amazing cars for sale. Here are three of my favorites.

2015

Porsche 918 Spyder

POA

The 918 Spyder was Porsche’s answer to the question of the ultimate hybrid supercar. While the Mclaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari chose rear-wheel drive, the all-wheel drive Porsche chose to be more usable. Not that it was any less capable, with a 4.6 liter V8 derived from the dominant RS Spyder prototype, (and a version of this engine now powers the championship winning 963 GTP) it also has two electric motors that combine for 887 horsepower and an insane 944 pound-feet of torque. The design echoed the fiberglass prototypes of the 60’s such as the 908 and 906, and it still looks new today. This car is finished in one-off paint-to-sample Light Green, a color that looks very similar to Acid Green which is used on the brakes, badges, and interior stitching of most 918’s. This car also has the very desirable Weissach Package that reduces weight by 90 pounds, although the Weissach magnesium wheels were not specified on this car and this car still wears the standard wheels. The original (and only) owner also specified Acid Green piping in the interior, but not on the dashboard to avoid reflections on the windscreen. The dashboard was also finished in matte carbon fiber to prevent reflections. This thoughtfully specified car is currently for sale at RM Sotheby’s with less than 475 KM from new.

Mercedes CLK-GTR

POA

The GT1 set of regulations was intended to allow the worlds best supercars to race each other, but it eventually evolved into protypes that had only one road legal version built. The Mclaren F1, which was never built with racing in mind dominated the early years, but Porsche soon stepped in with the half-993, half-962 911 GT1 and took the Mclaren’s place as the most dominant car. Mercedes soon wanted to enter, and built the world-beating CLK GTR in just 128 days (partially thanks to a Mclaren F1 GTR that was built into a CLK GTR test car) and it was fast, winning at the 1997 race at the Nurburgring and won six of the eight remaining races and both championships. In 1998, the CLK GTR’s steamrolled the opposition and won every single race. This car, chassis 011 was built in winter 1997 for reigning champion Bernd Schneider to drive with a young Mark Webber. This car won the 2nd round of the 1998 season at the Nurburgring, after which the CLK GTR was replaced by the even more extreme V8-powered CLK LM. This makes 011 both the last CLK GTR built and the last to win a race. chassis 011 was kept by Mercedes for a few years before selling it to Andreas Knapp Voith, a well-known collector of historic racecars. It was then sold to another European owner, and then to the current owner, where it was recommissioned by Cars International Service to be historic race-ready. Since then the car has appeared at the Supercar Driver Secret Meet in 2022, and the Pebble beach concours in 2024. Chassis 011 is now offered for sale by Fiskens Cars. This is a chance to acquire one of the greatest GT racers ever, raced by the Mercedes works team, and the last V12-engined CLK GTR built.

Mclaren P1 LM

POA

The Mclaren P1 is one of the defining supercars of recent years, part of the “Holy Trinity” with the Porsche 918 and Ferrari LaFerrari. The rarest and the prettiest, the P1 has aged very well. In 2015, McLaren introduced the track-only P1 GTR. With 1000 total horsepower and reduced weight, along with a new aero package that increased downforce by 10 percent, the GTR was a weapon. Several owners wanted to drive their P1 GTR on the road and contacted Lanzante. anzante couldn’t be described as just a race team, even though they won Le Mans overall with the F1 GTR on it’s first try. Lanzante have also built many custom Mclaren’s, all with factory approval, and built the F1-powered Porsche 911 TAG Turbo. In 2016, Lanzante began work on the ultimate P1. The result was the P1 LM, built from a GTR but even lighter, and road legal. Lanzante commissioned five new P1 GTR chassis from Mclaren to be built into the five P1 LM’s. The total power output matched the P1 GTR’s 1000 horsepower thanks to several engine upgrades, even though the LM used the less powerful hybrid system from the road car so making the car road legal would be easier. The LM weighed 60 kilograms less than the GTR thanks to removing the air jacks, a titanium exhaust system, a exposed carbon roof, Lexan windows and many other small details. A new aero package with a massive rear wing increased downforce significantly over the GTR. Despite this, the LM was still useable on the road, with air conditioning as standard. All these improvements resulted in the P1 LM beating the Nurburgring lap record for a road legal car, with a blistering 6:43 lap that has only been bettered by the Mercedes-AMG One. Of the five P1 LM’s, all left hand drive, four were Papaya Orange and one was grey. The LM cost 3.2 million pounds new, over 2 million pounds more than a standard P1 road car. This car is chassis 5, the last P1 ever built. It has never been driven and shows only 187 KM from new. Currently for sale with Kidston Motorcars, this is the first P1 LM ever offered for sale. and includes all of the special items included with the car at delivery, such as a 1/8 scale model, color-coded headsets, and a custom Rolex P1 LM watch. While Mclaren has built too many special edition cars such as the Elva and Speedtail, the P1 is still a very desirable car, and the LM is the ultimate version.
